stewardson competition

This was my entry for the 2017 Stewardson competition - a chance for recent graduates of the Carnegie Mellon School of Architecture to win a travel stipend. The two week competition called for the design of an observatory in the higher elevations of Arizona, near an existing facility. I brought my modular design thinking to bear here in order to prefabricate most of the building without the need for heavy excavation or deep foundations. This would both make it easier to construct on the difficult site and minimize the damage to the landscape and ecosystem. The three types of modules are sized to fit on a flatbed truck and are arrayed radially around the telescope dome itself to create the working scientific community.
