This proposal for a small community cancer center in central PA had a very tight construction budget, but the opportunity to embrace the creek and wetlands nearby. I placed the building on the site so that it can both shield this natural area from the parking lot, and embrace it with a popped up roof clerestory and full glass wall. This would create a bright and airy space with a view for the infusion area, where patients often spend hours idle and can feel chills because of their medication. A simple structural grid and consistent masonry façade keep the expected cost at a reasonable level.
